Putting Children First.
It is too easy for the school board to get caught up in the minutia for the district and lose focus on what is truly important. We need to refocus our priorities on children and the classroom
Improving Neighborhood Schools.
We have schools that work. We should look to schools that are successful, both here and in other districts, and adopt tried proven methods that will raise up our under-performing schools.
Parental and Neighborhood Involvement.
One of the things we KNOW works is increasing parental involvement in the schools. We must work harder at this task. It is unacceptable for ANY school in FWISD not to have a PTA or PTO. There are also many things neighborhoods can do to benefit their schools and we need to facilitate this.
Protecting Our Taxpayers.
The largest portion of our property tax bill goes to School Taxes. At the moment, given our children's performance relative to other urban districts in Texas, it is difficult to argue that our taxpayers are getting their moneys worth. Our Taxpayers do their part, our school board must do theirs.
Board Transparency and Integrity
Our board must conduct its business in the light of day. That means an end to backroom deals. It means an end to petty political bickering. It means an end to improper relationships with outside contractors and vendors.
